3 Ways to Reduce the Cost of Moving Home

3 Ways to Reduce the Cost of Moving Home

If you’re trying to move house on a budget then it’s critical you find ways to reduce moving costs. Whether the savings are used to put towards your deposit or new home renovations, there are several things you can do to help with the number crunching. To get you on your way, we have listed our top 3 ways to lower the cost of your next move.

1.Move Earlier in the Week

We know what you’re thinking, what does the day I move have to do with reducing the cost? Well, generally speaking, people prefer to move house on a Thursday or Friday. This is usually because it gives them the weekend to get settled. However, this means that these select dates become really popular.

At Jones Services Removals & Storage, we could often book up these days for our home removal services two or three days over. On the other hand, Mondays to Wednesdays are less in demand. Therefore, we offer our customers an Early Week discount if you want to move on these dates, to help those who are on a tighter budget. Please contact us for more information.

2. Think about your Packing Materials

If you choose to move home with us we’ll provide you with all of your packing materials in your moving pack. This includes boxes, bubblewrap, tape, packing paper and a marker pen. (If you choose our Gold Package, we’ll also do the packing for you).

However, we also suggest you think outside the box if you want to save more on your moving costs, especially if you are doing the packing yourself. Use what you already have around the house. Blankets and scarves can be used to provide additional protection when packing delicate items. Also, make sure you have used all of the bags and suitcase you already have before you think of getting more boxes. Not only is this more environmentally friendly, but it will also save you £££. If you do need extra boxes, make sure you ask local shops and supermarkets before buying more.

3. Declutter, declutter, declutter

Not only will it be cheaper to move less stuff, but it will also be much easier for you. Think about what you need to take with you, even if you are not downsizing. Make sure you take only the things you really need.

Once you have decided what is definitely coming to your new home with you, there are different ways of disposing of anything which didn’t make there cut. For instance, there are plenty of charities that will take your unwanted belongings if they are in good condition. However, if you are looking to stretch your budget, it might be a good idea to think about what you could sell. Have a look on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree and eBay to see what similar items are listed for. You can put any extra pennies you make towards your move, or save it for any jobs that need doing in your new home.

Looking for ways to reduce moving costs is essential when you are on a tight budget. We really hope these top tips will help! However, be sure to factor in any unexpected costs of moving, to ensure you stay on top of your finances.
